My goal
I want this website to work for everyone who visits it, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, screen magnification, or voice control. My goal is for the site to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is the widely used set of accessibility standards published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Accessibility is ongoing work. I review the site as pages are added or changed, and I fix problems when I find them or when someone tells me about them.
What has been done
- Semantic HTML. Each page has one main heading, headings follow a logical order, and the header, navigation, main content, and footer are marked as page regions, so screen reader users can jump between them. Lists, tables, and questions and answers use standard markup.
- Keyboard navigation. Links, menus, buttons, and form fields can be reached and used with a keyboard. The mobile menu keeps keyboard focus inside it while it is open, closes with the Escape key, and returns focus to where you were.
- Skip link. The first thing a keyboard user reaches on every page is a "Skip to main content" link that bypasses the menu.
- Visible focus. The link or control that has keyboard focus is marked with a thick gold outline, so you can always see where you are.
- Color contrast. Text and background colors were chosen to meet the WCAG AA contrast ratios for text.
- Text alternatives. Meaningful images have text descriptions. Decorative icons are hidden from screen readers so they do not add clutter. The build process for this site flags any image that is missing a text description.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site turns off animations and transitions.
- Resizable text. Text uses relative sizes, and the layout adjusts to narrow screens and browser zoom, so you can enlarge text with your browser's zoom without losing content.
Known limitations
Some content on or linked from this site comes from third parties, and I do not control how accessible it is. That includes:
- other websites the site links to, such as government agencies and consumer resources, and the documents they publish, which are sometimes PDF files that do not work well with screen readers;
- services that run parts of the site, such as the provider that processes the case review form and, if enabled, analytics tools; and
- forms and letters from courts, banks, credit bureaus, and landlords that you may need to read or fill out.
There may also be problems on this site that I have not found yet. If a third-party document or tool stands between you and information you need, tell me and I will help you get that information another way.
Request another format or report a barrier
If you cannot use part of this site, or you would like information in another format such as large print, a plain text e-mail, or a phone call walking you through it, please contact me:
- E-mail: jackson@getmcmillanlaw.com
- Phone: (813) 921-3516
It helps to include the page address, what you were trying to do, what went wrong, and, if you use one, the assistive technology and browser you were using. You do not need to use the online form to ask for help with your legal problem. You can call or e-mail instead.
I will respond to every request, work with you to get you the information you need in a format that works for you, and use what you tell me to fix the problem for other visitors.
Meeting with me
If you need an accommodation to talk with me about your situation or review documents, such as a phone call instead of a video meeting, larger print, or extra time, let me know when you reach out and I will work with you.
